Seeing what changed a deal field

Last updated 2026-10-27

When a value on a deal isn't what you expected, field history tells you what it used to be, when it changed, and who or what changed it — a teammate, an automator (by name), or Ask TED.

Opening a field's history

  1. Open the deal and go to the Deal Info tab.
  2. Find the field. If it has changed since history started being recorded, a small link sits under it — 1 change, 3 changes, and so on.
  3. Select the link. A panel opens titled with the field's name and history, listing every recorded change with the newest first.

A field with no link has no recorded changes yet. Custom fields your team added get the link the same way the built-in ones do.

Reading an entry

Each entry shows:

  • The old value and the new value, with an arrow between them. An empty side reads Empty — "Empty → Nov 1, 2026" means the field was blank and was filled in.
  • Who or what made the change:
    • a teammate's name, for an edit made by hand;
    • Automator and the automator's name, when a workflow set the field — followed by "started by" and a name when a person's action ran that step;
    • a name followed by with Ask TED, when it was changed by asking Ask TED;
    • System, for a change from an integration or other automatic source with no person behind it.
  • The date and time it happened.

Some fields are several values together — Earnest Money is the amount, the due date, the received date, who holds it, and whether it was forfeited (a due date TED fills in from the contract date shows up here too); Closing is the date and the closing price. Their history lists every part in one place, and each entry names the part it changed.

Field changes in the Activity tab

The same changes show up in the deal's Activity tab as a Field changes entry: who or what made them, which fields, and the old and new value of each. Everything changed in one save — or by one automator run — is grouped into a single entry. Select Show 2 more (the number varies) to see the rest when an entry covers more than three fields.

What isn't in field history

  • Contract Price has its own history — the renegotiations link next to it. See Contract facts and earnest money.
  • Status, deal type, and the people on the deal (Owner, Dispo, TC, Originated by) are recorded as their own entries in the Activity tab.
  • Title issues and liens keep their own list on Property Facts.
  • Title Company, Legal Entity, and the calculated Assignment Fee don't have field history.
  • Deal notes save as you type, so they aren't kept change by change. The Activity tab shows Updated deal notes when they were edited.
  • The values a deal starts with — typed in when it was created, or brought in by a spreadsheet import — aren't changes. A field's history starts the first time one of them is changed.
  • Changes made before field history was switched on were not recorded, so a field's history starts with the first change after that.

There's no button to put an old value back. To restore one, read it from the history and type it into the field again.

Common issues

  • "Couldn't load this field's history." — the list didn't load. Select Retry; if it keeps happening, check your connection.
  • "No changes recorded yet" — the panel opened but there's nothing to list, which can happen if the deal changed between loading the page and opening the panel. Reload the deal.
  • The link doesn't appear right after you edit a field — it shows once you select Save Changes and the save finishes.
