Understanding notifications

Last updated 2026-10-27

The bell icon in the top bar (next to the theme toggle) is your notification quick view. Inbox, in the left-hand navigation, is the full history — see Inbox: your full notification history below.

Reading your notifications

  1. Select the bell icon. A badge shows your unread count (9+ once you pass nine).
  2. The Activity panel lists your 8 most recent notifications, newest first.
  3. Select a notification to mark it read and jump straight to the deal or task it's about.
  4. Select See all notifications to open Inbox.

If you have none yet, the panel reads "No notifications yet".

Inbox: your full notification history

Open Inbox in the sidebar for everything addressed to you, not just the bell's most recent few:

  • Notifications are grouped Today, Yesterday, and Earlier, newest first.
  • Filter to Unread only, or narrow to one kind — Mentions, Approvals, Automator hand-offs, Deal events, Date reminders, Pay, People, Texts & calls, or Updates.
  • Select Mark all as read to clear every unread notification at once.
  • Pending team invitations show as pinned cards at the top of Inbox — see Joining a team. Select View Invitation to accept or decline.
  • New notifications appear live — no need to refresh.

What shows up here

  • Comments and @-mentions on a deal or in team chat.
  • Tasks and approvals assigned or verified on an automator run, including runs that need your attention or have completed.
  • Email actions inside an automator — an email ready to review, one that needs attention, or one that sent automatically.
  • Waiting on You — a run paused on a decision, form, or instruction step and it's your turn to act, or a teammate hit Nudge on you.
  • Automator Has No Owner — sent to every team admin when a run can't figure out who should own it (no Transaction Coordinator staffed and no fallback resolves). An admin needs to assign an owner from the run. It's removed from admins' bells once the run has an owner.
  • Automator Needs a Home Role — sent to every team admin when TED updates a library automator and can't match its role to one on your team (usually because that role was renamed or removed). The automator keeps running as normal — an admin just needs to open it in the builder and pick a role.
  • Automator Runs Paused / Automator Runs Resumed — sent to a run's owner (and the deal owner) when putting a deal on hold pauses its automator runs, or taking it off hold resumes them. Closing or funding a deal that was on hold also resumes its paused runs, but doesn't send this notification — that resume happens silently as part of wrapping up the deal.
  • Deal and commission activity — a new deal is created, you're assigned to a deal (as owner, transaction coordinator, or disposition agent, or staffed on it), a deal you're on moves to a new stage, a closing/due diligence/earnest money due date is coming up (7 days out, 1 day out, and the day of — the earnest money one stops once the deposit is received), or a commission of yours is earned or marked paid. Team members who opt into team-wide deal activity also get a notification when any deal on the team is created or changes stage.
  • Bonus Earned / Bonus Paid — you reached a bonus level on one of your bonus plans (for example, "Bonus: $2,000.00 for hitting 5 contracts"), or an admin marked one of your bonuses paid. If a deal falls through after a bonus was paid, the correction shows up as a bonus adjustment rather than taking the original payment back. Select either one to open Pay & Time.
  • New text from… / Missed call from… / Voicemail from… — a contact texted your line (the first part of the text shows underneath), called and nobody picked up, or left you a voicemail — or a contact you own did that on any of your team's lines. Only the teammate whose line it was and the contact's owner get it, and texts and calls from numbers that aren't on a contact never send one. Select it to open the Texts & Calls tab on the deal it's linked to — or, if it isn't linked to a deal, the contact's timeline showing their texts and calls. The Open in TED button on an email or Slack alert goes to the same place.
  • Follow up with… / Overdue: follow up with… — a contact you own has a follow-up due today, sent at 8am your team's time. The note you left shows underneath. An overdue follow-up comes back each morning until you mark it Done or reschedule it. Select it (or Open in TED in the email) to open the contact. See Following up with a contact.
  • Proof of funds for… expires in 30 days / …expires today — a document on a contact or company you own (or that you uploaded, when nobody owns the record) is 30 days from its expiry date, or expires today, sent at 8am your team's time. The file name shows underneath. Select it to open the profile at its Documents card. See Keeping documents on contacts and companies.
  • Birthdays and work anniversaries — if your role gives you access to the Employees section, you'll see a teammate's birthday or hire-date anniversary the day it happens. You never see your own.
  • CRM Agent Not Matched — sent to every team admin when a deal arrives from your CRM webhook with an agent email that matches nobody on the team ("A CRM deal arrived for jane@example.com, who isn't on this team. It went to Alex Admin."). The deal went to the webhook's Default Owner; select it to open the deal and reassign it. See Connecting a webhook source.
  • Email template updated / Draft awaiting review — sent to team admins when a shared email template has a newer version to adopt, or when someone requests your review before publishing an automator draft.

Choosing what reaches you by email or Slack

The bell is always on, but email and Slack are yours to configure. Open your profile menu (top right) and select Notifications, or select Notification settings from Inbox's empty state — see Choosing what TED sends you for the full settings page (channels, groups, and defaults). In short: for each event you're eligible for, switch Email and Slack on or off — In-app stays on and can't be turned off, except for text and call alerts, which you can switch off there. Slack notifications stay off until you link your Slack account from your Profile page.
